Meristematic tissue is the undifferentiated tissues which have the ability to divide continuously. They are present at the shoot tip and root tip in plants. They are composed of actively dividing metabolic cells. Apical meristematic tissues are present at the growing tips and help in the elongation of plants. Intercalary meristematic tissues are present at the nodes and internodes in stems and leaves which are residual apical meristems which help in increasing the length of the plant. Both apical and intercalary meristematic tissues help in primary growth of the plant. Lateral meristematic tissue or secondary tissue are found in woody plants (consist of the vascular cambium and the cork cambium) which helps to increase the thickness in plants. They form cambial rings in stems and roots.
