Paddy requires more water than any other crop. As a result, paddy cultivation is done only in those areas where minimum rainfall is 115 cm. Rice grows on loam, silt, and gravel type of soil. Clayey loam is ideal to grow this crop. There should be plentiful sunlight especially during the last 35 to 45 days of ripening. Carbohydrate develops well in the rice when there is bright sunshine with a temperature that is moderate to low.
