Indian agriculture is a ‘gamble in the monsoons’ because of :
Heavy rainfall during the monsoons
Uncertain and unreliable monsoons
Concentration of rainfall in summers
No or very little rainfall in some parts of the country
The Indian agriculture is considered a gamble against monsoon because agricultural activities over almost all parts of India are very much dependent upon the monsoon rainfall. In fact, monsoon is the axis around which the India economy revolves. Hence, monsoon plays very important role in shaping Indian Economy. If monsoon fails then it will reduce the percentage points from the overall GDP growth of India.
