Black soils are ideal for cultivation of cotton because :
their colour is black and hence suitable to ward off cotton pests
they can retain moisture
they are found on plateau regions
they are made of lava
Black soil is ideal for growing cotton and is also known as black cotton soil. These soils are made up of extremely fine i.e. clayey material. They are well-known for their capacity to hold moisture. Cotton is a rain-fed crop. Because of their high clay content, the black soil has wide crack during summers but they are resistant to wind and water erosion. They are highly moisture-retentive.
