Amrita Shergil: Amrita Sher-Gill was born in Budapest Hungary on January 30, 1921. Since she showed artistic talent from the very beginning, her parents sent her to Florence, Italy to study art. She was expelled from school for having drawn women in the nude. She was also made Associate of the Grand Salon, the first Indian to achieve this distinction.She came to India for the first time in the 1920s. From that instant her work underwent a sea change.some of her most famous paintings Siesta, The Story Teller, Ganesh Puja. Hillside, Hill Scene.
M.F. Hussain: He has specialized in depicting expressionist figures through line and colour. He has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 1986.
Satish Gujral: Began as a painter but later on his move known as a muralist. Both his paintings and murals are done in modern style.
Sobha Singh : Sobha Singh(1901 - 1986), who was to Sikh art what Raja Ravi Varma was to Hindu art. He was Head Draughtsman in the Indian Army stationed in Baghdad. There he was influenced by local customs and this inspired him to paint legends like Lala Rukh and Omar Khayam. The influence of the Bengal School is quite evident on his style. Sobha Singh’s highly popular Sohini Mahival has many versions, President conferred on him the Padama Shree in 1983,
N.S. Bendre : His works are included in important collections in the National Gallery of Modern Art, Akademi of Art, Calcutta and Bharat Bhavan.
Laxman Goud: A graphic artist revealing unique craftsman’s skill. His subject is the tribal life of Andhra Pradesh.
Sudhir Patavardhan: He depicts his own involvement in the lives of people. A large number of human figures appear on his canvases.
Jogen Chowdhury: Ink and watercolour with human figures and with one or two accessories appear on his canvases.
