World Cancer Day is observed every year on February 04 across the world to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection and treatment.

• The theme for 2016-2018 is “We can, I can.”
• The day was instituted by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) in 2008.
• First ‘World Summit Against Cancer’ was held in Paris in 2000.

UICC: The Union for International Cancer Control is based in Geneva and is a leading NGO founded in 1993. This organization is responsible for recognition to February 04 as International Cancer Day.
