World’s oldest aircraft carrier, INS Viraat, has been decommissioned by the Indian Navy in Mumbai nearly after 6 decades of service.

• It holds Guiness Books of World Record for the longest serving warship in the world.
• It was built in 1943 during the WWII and was first commissioned as the HMS Hermes into the British Royal Navy in 1959.
• It will always be remembered for its participation in Operation Jupiter (Sri Lanka) and Operation Parakram (stand off with Pakistan post Parliament Attacks).
