• The UN has adopted the historic global treaty banning nuclear weapons.
• It was adopted by a vote of 122 members in favour. It will enter into force once 50 countries ratified it.
• All of the ratifying countries should never under any circumstance take up nuclear weapons.

The 9 nuclear powers namely, US, UK, Russia, France, China, India, Pakistan, North Korea and Israel did not vote nor did they took part in negotiations.
