The Union Ministry of Tourism launched the Swadesh Darshan Scheme in the year 2015 to develop theme based tourist circuits in the country.

These circuits were developed under on principles of high tourist value, competitiveness and sustainability in integrated manner. The scheme is 100% centrally funded and so far 13 thematic circuits have been identified for development under this scheme. The scheme was in news the ministry proposed two important projects as part of Development of North East Circuit in Arunachal Pradesh.
