Sangai Tourism Festival: Sangai tourism festival is an annual festival of Manipur. It is the biggest festival of the state named after the state animal of Manipur - Sangai which is a critically endangered brow-antlered deer found only in Manipur. The festival aims to promote Manipur as the world class tourism destination. The festival was first observed in 2010 and has grown over the years into a big platform for Manipur to showcase its rich tradition and cultural heritage. The festival focus on Ras Leela, Bamboo dance, Maibi dance, Kabui Naga dance, Lai Haraoba dance, Khamba Thoibi dance etc. Ras Leela is state’s classical dance form. The festival also showcase, indigenous sports such as martial arts - Thang Ta, Mukna Kangjei, Yubi-Lakpi and Sagol Kangjei. This week Sangai tourism festival was celebrated in Manipur.
Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development: The Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development is awarded annually by Indira Gandhi Trust since 1986. It is awarded to persons as well as organisations in recognition of their creative efforts towards promoting international peace, development. It is also bestowed upon them for creating new international economic order. The prize consists of monetary award of Rs 25 lakh and citation. The winners include some of the most famous personalities such as MS Swaminathan, Kofi Annan, Angel Merkel, Indian Space Research Organisation and UN High Commission on Refugees and Manmohan Singh. This year the Centre for Science and Environment has been awarded the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development.
