Sangai Deer was in news recently as the festival which is named after the animal was celebrated in the state of Manipur.

The name of the festival is Sangai Tourism Festival. Sangai Deer is a critically endangered deer species found only in Manipur. It is a brow antlered Deer species. The other name of the deer is Dancing deer and is state animal of Manipur. Its remaining natural habitat is founding Keibul Lamjao National Park which is the only floating national park of the world. The national park is floating biomass in Manipur’s Loktak Lake. It is known around the world for its unique composition which is made up of biomass vegetation and is locally called Phumdis. The vegetation floats on surface of the lake.
