Irrawaddy Dolphins are oceanic dolphins that lives in brackish water near coasts, river mouths and in estuaries in South and Southeast Asia.

• It has a bulging forehead and a shorter beak that gives it a distinct shape than other dolphins.
• These dolphins have developed sub-populations in fresh water rivers as well that includes Ganga, Mekong as well as Irrawaddy rivers (River from where it fetches its name).

The dolphins have IUCN Status as VU and were recently in news as Odisha government conducted a census to count their population in Odisha state which turns out to be 181. These dolphins are found in three places that includes Chilika Lake, Bhitarkanika and Bhadrak Wildlife Sanctuary.
