Nepal has been chosen as the host for the 4th BIMSTEC summit. BIMSTEC is a regional grouping of BIMST-BN nations that includes – Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Srilanka, Thailand, Bhutan and Nepal.

• It was established in 1997 through the Bangkok declaration and has headquarters at Dhaka, Bangladesh.
• The grouping has achieved greater significance post BIMSTEC-BRICS Outreach Summit held in Goa in October 2016.
