EU human rights prize: Nadia Murad and LamiyaAji Bashar, two young Iraqis who escaped sexual slavery by the Islamic State and became advocates for women’s rights were honored with the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, the European Union’s top human rights award.

ABU award: AIR Allahabad Programme Executive AbhinaySrivastava won the first prize in the ‘Community Service Announcement’ category ‘Diary of a Tiger‘on dwindling forests and gradually decreasing habitats of tigers at the Asia-Pacific Broadcast Union (ABU) Prizes 2016 at Bali, Indonesia.

Man Booker Prize : Paul Beatty has become the first US author to win the Man Booker Prize with his man-bookerracial satire “The Sellout”. His novel tells the story of a young black man who tries to reinstate slavery and racial segregation in a suburb of Los Angeles. This is the third year that the £50,000 prize has been open to writers of any nationality.
