Marketing is _______, there is a constant tension between the formulated side of marketing and the management side.
An art
A Science
Both an “art” and a “science”
Selling
Science may be defined as a systematised body of knowledge based on certain principles which are universally applicable. The principles of science are based upon experiments, constant research, observation, collection of data and its interpretation. The scientific laws establish the relationship between cause and effect and their results are definite and accurate. In simple words, science is a system of facts of knowledge concerning a subject. Art, on the other hand, is that part of the knowledge which enables us to reach our goals and tells us the manner in which we may attain our objectives in the best possible manner. The more we practice an art, the more proficient we become in it. Modern management is the art of getting things done from others. Marketing is an art, a substantial body of rules or principles on buying, selling, financing, transport, storage, standardisation etc., that have been put into practice to get the desired results.
Marketing is regarded both as an art as well as science. It consists of certain principles which may not be exact like pure sciences. These principles and rules are put to use in the best possible manner to get the best results. It can be concluded that marketing has the properties of science and attributes of art.
