On the occasion of Global Wind Day 2025, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced that India’s installed wind power capacity has grown over 10.5% in one year, reaching 51.5 GW.

This achievement strengthens India’s position as the 4th-largest country in wind power capacity globally and aligns with the nation's vision for self-reliance and renewable growth.

Key Highlights:

• India’s total installed wind energy capacity has increased by over 10.5% in the past year, rising from 46.42 GW to 51.5 GW as of June 2025.
• The country now ranks as the world’s 4th-largest wind energy market and the 3rd-largest overall renewable energy producer.
• Under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, India is manufacturing 33 models of wind turbines, ranging from 225 kW to 5.2 MW, by 14 companies.
• Karnataka led the nation in wind energy additions for FY 2024–25 with 1,331.48 MW, followed by Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.
• The government has set an ambitious goal to achieve 100 GW of wind energy capacity by 2030, including 30 GW from offshore projects supported by a Rs.7,453 crore viability gap funding scheme.
