If 2 tables and 3 chairs cost Rs. 3500 and 3 tables and 2 chairs cost Rs. 4000, then how much does a table cost?

Explanation:

Let the cost of chair be Rs. 7 and table be Rs. c.
Now,
2 Tables and 3 Chair Cost Rs. 3500
⇒ 2T + 3C = 3500 ..............(i)
3 Tables and 2 chair cost Rs. 4000.
⇒ 3T + 2C = 4000 ................(ii)
multiplying eqn. (i) by 3, and eqn (ii) by 2, we get
⇒ 6T + 9C = 10,500 ................(iii)
⇒ 6T + 4C = 8000 ...................(iv)
Subtracting eqn. (iv) from eqn. (iii) , we get,
⇒ 5C = 2500
∴ C = 500.
Put C = 500 in eqn. (i) we get,
⇒ 2T + 3 × 500 = 3500
⇒ 2T = 3500 – 1500
⇒ T = 2000
∴ T = 1000
Here, the cost of the table is Rs. 1000.
Hence, option C is correct.
