the two-digit number be = 10x + y, where x > y
According to the question,
10x + y – 10y – x = 36
9x – 9y = 36
9(x – y) = 36
x – y =4...(i)
and, x + y = 14 ...(ii)
From equations (i) and (ii)
2x = 18
x =9
From equation (i)
y = 14– 9 = 5
Required product = xy = 9 × 5 = 45
