A train running at 108kmph takes 10 seconds to pass the platform. Again it takes 6 seconds to pass a woman walking at 3kmph in the same direction in which the train is going. What is the length of the platform?
80m
90m
75m
85m
Let the length of the train be x meters and the length of the platform be y meters. Speed of train relative to woman = (108-3)kmph = 105kmph = (105x5/18) = 175/6 m/sec In passing a woman, the train covers its own length with relative speed. Length of train = (Relative speed x time ) = (525/18x6) = 175m Also speed of train = (105x5/18)m/sec = 175/6m/sec (x+y)/(75/3) = 10 (x + y) = 750/3 = 250 y= (250 - 175)m = 75m
