The annual incomes of two persons are in the ratio 9 : 7 and their expenses are in the ratio 4 : 3. If each of them saves Rs. 2000 per year, what is the difference in their annual incomes?
Rs. 4000
Rs. 4500
Rs. 5000
Rs. 5500
Let annual incomes of two persons be 9x and 7x and expenses be 4y and 3y, respectively. Then, according to the question, 9x − 4y = 2000 …(i) and 7x − 3y = 2000...............(ii) From Eqs. (i) and (ii), we get 9x − 4y = 7x − 3y => y = 2x On putting the value of y in Eq. (i), we get 9x − 8x = 2000 => x = Rs. 2000 Difference between their annual incomes = 9x − 7x = 2x = Rs.4000
