ORDERING OF SENTENCES
Directions: in this section, each item consists of six sentences of a passage. The first and the sixth sentences are given in the beginning as S I and 56. The middle four sentences in each have been jumbled up and labelled P, Q, R and S. You are required to find the proper sequence of the four sentences and mark your response accordingly on the Answer Sheet.
S1 : The crowd swelled round the thief.
S6 : They were followed by the crowd winch left the thief alone.
P : Suddenly he whipped out a knife from under his shirt.
Q : The thief stood quiet, his head hung in shame.
R : The two young men holding him were scared by the sight of the shining knife.
S : They took to their heels.
The proper sequence should be:
Q P R S
S Q P R
S P Q R
R Q S P
‘Q’ will be the first part of the given sequence as it states that the thief was standing quiet, his head hung in shame because the crowd was standing around the thief as mentioned in the opening part of the given sequence. ‘P’ will follow next as it talks about the ‘transition’ word ‘suddenly’ reflects that he did something after being quiet. ‘R’ will follow next as ’scared by the sight’ is used in the context of ‘whipped out a knife’ mentioned in the very previous point. ‘S’ will pair with ‘R’ as it tells the effect of ‘sight of shining knife’ on the two men as they took to their heels. Hence, QPRS is the correct sequence. Thus, option (1) is correct
