The following items consists of two Statements I and II. You are to examine these two statements carefully and select the answer to these items using the code given below.

I. The Rajya Sabha is not subject to dissolution and the members enjoy a tenure of six years.
II. According to Article 83 of the Constitution of India, one-third of members of Rajya Sabha retire every two years.

1.Rajyasabha is the only constitutional body in India which can’t be dissolved by anybody. No one can do it even the President of India or by the Supreme Court
2.1/3 rd members of Rajyasabha are retired every 2 yrs. Tenure of a Rajyasaba member is 6yrs,while loksabha is 5 yrs.
3.The maximum strength of Rajyasabha is fixed at 250( 238 elected and 12 nominated by President of India).At present there are only 245 members(233 elected and 12 nominated).
4.Rajya sabha is known as House of Elders.
5.Minimum age for a Loksabha member is 25 yrs but 30 for Loksabha member.
6.Rajyasabha seats are allocated for a state on the basis of population of that state. Thus Uttar Pradesh has got the maximum share(31 memebers).There are 8 states with only a single member( Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland ,Meghalaya, Goa, Sikkim). Union territory Puducherry too have only a single seat.
7.Members of Rajyasabha are not elected directly by the people. They are elected by M.L.A ‘s of that corresponding states.
8.The only union territories which have Rajyasabha members are Delhi and Puducherry
9.The presiding officer of Loksabha is Speaker while in Rajyasabha there is no speaker. The presiding officer of Rajyasabha is the Vice president of India.
10.Dr. S. Radhakrishnan is known as father of Rajyasabha since he was the first Vice President of India and hence the first Chairman of Rajyasabha. Jawaharlal Nehru called him so.
