The Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir officially got its first elected government on Wednesday(16 October 2024) after National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah was sworn in as the chief minister.

• The swearing-in ceremony took place  at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar.
• The chief minister and his ministers were administered the oath of office and secrecy by Jammu and Kashmir lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha.
• This will be the first elected government in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganisation of the former state into two Union Territories.
• Omar Abdullah chose party leader Surender Choudhary from Nowshera in Jammu as his deputy.
