Nucleons :

The nuclei of atoms are made up of protons and neutrons. These two components of the nucleus are referred to as nucleons and their total number is known as mass number of an atom.
The mass of the nucleus is less than the sum of individual masses of the protons and neutrons. The difference is the measure of binding energy per nucleon that holds the nucleons together.
