The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) achieved a significant milestone in the fiscal year 2024-25 by constructing 5,614 kilometers of national highways, surpassing its target of 5,150 kilometers.
Record Capital Expenditure
NHAI's capital expenditure for highway development reached an unprecedented Rs.2.5 lakh crore, exceeding the projected Rs.2.4 lakh crore. This marks a 21% increase from the Rs.2.07 lakh crore spent in FY 2023-24 and a 45% rise compared to Rs.1.73 lakh crore in FY 2022-23.
Asset Monetization Initiatives
In FY 2024-25, NHAI monetized assets totaling Rs.28,724 crore through various methods:
Toll Operate Transfer (TOT): Leasing operational highways to private entities for upfront payments.
Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT): Pooling income-generating assets to attract institutional investors, with a record Rs.17,738 crore raised in a single round.
Toll Securitization: Leveraging future toll revenues to secure immediate funds.
These efforts underscore NHAI's commitment to enhancing India's highway infrastructure, contributing significantly to economic growth and improved connectivity.
