Why GI tags are given?
Legal provisions of GI?
=> Protection given under Geographic Indicator of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999.
=> The Act is in accordance with TRIPS of WTO.
=> Validity -10 years(can be renewed).
=> Applicable for Agricultural, Natural, Manufactured goods.
=> The first product in India to be accorded with GI tag was Darjeeling tea in the year 2004-05.
