? The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $231 million loan to construct the 120-MW Lower Kopili Hydroelectric Power (LKHEP) plant in Assam, India.

? The Lower Kopili hydel project is located in the south-east of West Karbi Anglong and north-west of Dima Hasao districts, of Assam.

? The proposed hydroelectric project will help increase electricity supplied from clean energy by 469 gigawatthour (GWh) by 2025 and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 360,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.

? The project will have provision for treatment of acidic water of the Kopili during the construction stage.

? The reason for water becoming acidic is the indiscriminate rat-hole coal mining in the area.
