The Bakarpur to Areraj section of the National Highway to be built on both the banks of the Gandak river is targeted to be handed over in 2021-22 and the Areraj to Bettiah section in 2022- 23, Government of India has decided to transfer the Bakarpur to Manikpur, Sahebganj, Areraj and Bettiah sections. It has been decided to include the connecting section which is on the eastern bank of the river Gandak in the Bharatmala scheme, along with this, the DPR will soon be prepared for the construction of the national highway on the western bank of the river Gandak. Sonpur – Vaishali – Sahebganj – Areraj – Bettiah section has already been notified as National Highway 139W.
