Maharashtra government has unveiled the “Maharashtra Electric Vehicle (EV) policy, 2021”.
Key Points:
=> Government also revealed its plans to attract EV manufacturing companies and allied businesses in State by offering incentives to industries and consumers.
=> EV policy was unveiled by State Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray which was approved by cabinet on July 4.
Aim of the policy:
Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy 2021 was unveiled with the aim of promoting adoption of electric vehicles, its production and strengthening necessary infrastructure. It also seeks to ensure that EVs comprise at least 10% of new vehicles registered by 2025 and 25% electrification of public transport by 2025 in six urban centres namely, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Amravati, Aurangabad and Nashik. It will also set up 2,500 charging stations in urban areas and highways.
Key Provisions of Policy:
=> EV policy offers industries all the benefits under ‘D+’ category of mega projects. Benefits would be provided irrespective of location of the manufacturing unit in State. D+ category benefits will be provided to all the industries in least developed parts Maharashtra.
=> Incentives under the policy will be applicable from date of notification of policy. It will be disbursed through Industries, Energy and Labour Departments.
=> Policy also provided for road tax exemption. All EVs sold in State will be exempted from road tax and registration charges. Vehicles without battery will get 50% of demand incentive while remaining incentive amount will be provided to energy operator.
