India reaffirmed its dedication to fostering regional cooperation, sustainable development, and maritime security at the 24th Council of Ministers Meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).
Held virtually under Sri Lanka’s chairmanship, the event focused on promoting a sustainable Indian Ocean for future generations, with India playing a key leadership role.

- India was represented by P. Kumaran, Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs, who emphasized cooperation and joint efforts to promote prosperity in the Indian Ocean Region.
- The meeting, themed “Sustainable Indian Ocean for Future Generations,” included participation from 22 IORA Member States and 12 Dialogue Partners.
- India, currently serving as Vice-Chair and part of the IORA Troika, will assume the Chairship for the 2025–2027 term, highlighting its growing leadership in regional maritime affairs.
- The Council adopted the ‘Colombo Communiqué’ to strengthen cooperation and sustainable development efforts across IORA nations.
- India condemned terrorism in all its forms, including cross-border terrorism, and called for unified global action to combat threats to regional peace and security.
