The Andhra Pradesh government has launched the Smart Mosquito Surveillance System (SMoSS), an AI- and IoT-based program designed to combat mosquito-borne diseases.

The system uses real-time data, smart sensors, and drones to identify and target mosquito breeding hotspots across major urban areas.

• SMoSS is being implemented in 66 high-risk zones across six cities—Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Kakinada, Rajamahendravaram, Nellore, and Kurnool.
• The system uses AI-powered sensors and IoT devices to detect mosquito density, species, gender, temperature, and humidity, issuing alerts when risks rise.
• Targeted interventions such as drone-based larvicide spraying and data-driven fogging replace outdated blanket spraying methods.
• Public health agencies use mobile apps like Vector Control and Puramitra to track field activities and receive citizen feedback, with agencies paid based on results.
• Hospitals provide daily updates on dengue, malaria, and chikungunya, enabling health officials to map outbreaks and launch timely, data-backed responses.
