Why in news:

• The Himachal Pradesh State Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has given its approval for a new initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable sections of society.

Purpose of the Scheme:

• The ‘Mukhya Mantri Sukh Shiksha Yojana’ is designed to offer increased financial assistance to specific groups. The specific groups delineated by the state government in this regard include widows, destitute women, divorced women, and disabled parents.
• As envisaged by the state government, this support is intended to aid in the upbringing and education of their children.

Monthly financial grant:

• As per the provisions of the scheme, children who qualify under this scheme will receive a monthly grant of Rs. 1,000. This grant is intended to help cover a range of needs, including educational expenses, health care, and nutrition, until the child reaches the age of 18.

Higher education support:

• The scheme has been designed in a comprehensive manner and it also provides financial assistance for higher education. This includes support for undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and vocational courses.
