From a reading of the draft Waqf (Amendment) Bill, it would appear that the government has forgotten that Waqf properties are the private and self-acquired properties of the followers of Islam, except those which non-Muslims may have donated.

About Waqf

Waqf: A property dedicated in the name of God for religious and charitable purposes.
Legal Definition: Permanent dedication by a Muslim of movable or immovable property for purposes recognized by Muslim law as pious, religious, or charitable.
Proceeds fund institutions like mosques, schools, and shelters.
Once designated as waqf, property becomes non-transferable and is perpetually detained as a charitable act toward God.

Types of Waqf:

Public Waqf: Serves broader charitable ends.
Private Waqf: Benefits the property owner’s descendants.
Creation: Requires the creator (Waqif) to be of sound mind and a lawful owner of the property. A Waqif can be non-Muslim if they follow Islamic principles.
