    Himalayan Mountain Ranges :

    • The Himalayan Mountains form the northern mountain region of India. They are the highest mountain ranges in the world. These mountain ranges start from Pamir Knot in the west and extend up to Purvanchal in the east.
    • Shiwalik Range: Also known as Outer Himalayas. Located in between the Great Plains and Lesser Himalayas. The Shiwalik are consolidated sands, gravels and conglomerate deposits which were brought by the rivers flowing from the higher ranges. Outer Himalaya or Shiwalik Range has the average height of 600 - 1200 mts and most of the Dun & Duars are located in this range
    • Ladakh and Karakoram Range lies beyond the Greater Himalayas and belongs to Trans Himalayan Range.
    • Arunachal Himalayas: Extend from the east of the Bhutan Himalayas up to the Diphu Pass in the east. Important mountain peaks of the Arunachal Himalayas region are Kangto and Namcha Barwa.
