The Indian Railways is set to dig ponds under the government’s Mission Amrit Sarovar to address water scarcity in India. As part of this initiative, the Railways will construct new water bodies near railway sites in coordination with district authorities and the Rural Development Ministry.
Objective:
- Construct or rejuvenate at least 75 Amrit Sarovars per district across all States & UTs.
- Address water scarcity and ensure water sustainability at the local level.
- Promote community participation (Jan Bhagidari) and climate resilience.
?Mission Amrit Sarovar
The initiative Mission Amrit Sarovar was launched on 24th April 2022 with a view to conserve water for the future.
The Mission is aimed at developing and rejuvenating 75 water bodies in each district of the country as a part of celebration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
