Sania Mirza to Retire from Professional Tennis

India’s former doubles World No. 1 champion, Sania Mirza, has announced that she will retire from professional tennis in February at the WTA 1000 event in Dubai.

  • The 36-year-old has had a successful career, winning six Grand Slam doubles titles and becoming the first Indian to win a WTA singles title when she won the Hyderabad event in 2005.
  • Mirza reached a career-high ranking of world number 27 and is regarded as her country’s greatest women’s tennis player.
