Shri P.M. Prasad has assumed charge as the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Coal India Limited.

• Shri Prasad holds a degree in mining engineering from Osmania University, Hyderabad and a postgraduate degree in opencast mining from IIT (ISM), Dhanbad.
• He has more than 38 years of expertise in mine planning, production and management, for both underground and opencast coal mines. He also has a degree in Law from Nagpur University. 
• Prior to this, Shri Prasad was the CMD of CIL subsidiaries Central Coalfields Limited and Bharat Coking Coal Limited. He started his career as a management trainee at Western Coalfields Limited in 1984.
• Shri Prasad has also worked with NTPC as an Executive Director (Coal Mining).
