Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, inaugurated the country's first 3-nanometer (3nm) chip design centres in Noida and Bengaluru on May 14, 2025. These state-of-the-art facilities, established by Renesas Electronics India Private Limited, mark India's entry into advanced semiconductor design, positioning the nation among global leaders in chip innovation.

Key Highlights:

• These centres have been set up by Renesas Electronics India, a leading semiconductor firm from Japan.
• The Noida facility will focus on designing chips for automotive, artificial intelligence, and high-performance computing applications.
• The Bengaluru centre, now Renesas’ largest in India with over 500 employees, will focus on embedded software and advanced system innovation.
• The government will distribute semiconductor learning kits to over 270 academic institutions to strengthen practical training in chip design.
• Renesas signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with C-DAC under the “Chips to Startup (C2S)” programme to support academic and startup innovation.
• This development aligns with the India Semiconductor Mission and marks a major milestone in India's journey toward semiconductor self-reliance.
• With this launch, India joins the league of countries capable of designing cutting-edge 3nm chips for next-generation technologies.
