On May 8, 2025, the Indian Navy received INS Arnala, the first indigenously designed and built Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), marking a significant milestone in India's maritime defense capabilities.

  • INS Arnala was delivered to the Indian Navy on May 8, 2025, marking a milestone in India’s naval self-reliance.
  • Designed by GRSE and built by L&T at Kattupalli, Tamil Nadu, the craft supports the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative with over 80% indigenous content.
  • The vessel is 77 meters long and features diesel engine–waterjet propulsion—first of its kind in Indian warships.
  • It is equipped for anti-submarine warfare in shallow waters, mine laying, search and rescue, and coastal surveillance.
  • INS Arnala is the first of eight ASW Shallow Water Crafts planned to replace the aging Abhay-class corvettes.
