Gandhi Peace Prize

The Gandhi Peace Prize for the years 2019 and 2020 has been conferred on the following:

Year	Winner	Contribution
2019	(Late) His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said of Oman	strengthening relations between India and Oman, and his efforts to promote peace and non-violence in the Gulf region.
2020	Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman of Bangladesh	inspiring the liberation of Bangladesh, laying the foundation for the close and fraternal relations between India and Bangladesh, and promoting peace and non-violence in the Indian subcontinent.

The jury that decided the winners was chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and comprised of the two ex-officio members, namely the Chief Justice of India, Sharad Arvind Bobde and Leader of the single largest Opposition Party in Lok Sabha and two eminent members namely Shri Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, and Shri Bindeshwar Pathak, Founder of Sulabh International Social Service Organization.
The annual award was instituted by the Government of India in 1995 during the commemoration of 125th Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The award recognizes the outstanding contributions of winners towards social, economic and political transformation through non-violent and other Gandhian methods.
