About The 'Phenome India' Project

• Phenome India-CSIR Health Cohort Knowledgebase (PI-CheCK) is a Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) program that launched on December 7, 2023.

• The project's goal is to create risk prediction models for cardio-metabolic disorders such as diabetes, liver disease, and cardiac disease that are unique to India.

• This is the first pan-India longitudinal health monitoring study that focuses on cardio-metabolic illnesses.

• Participants- The survey included about 10,000 CSIR personnel, pensioners, and their spouses from 17 states and 24 cities.

• Clinical questionnaires, lifestyle and food habits, anthropometric measures, imaging/scanning data, and a wealth of biochemical and molecular data were all obtained.

• Importance- The study is critical for understanding the risk and prevalence of cardio-metabolic illnesses in the Indian population, which may differ from those in Western nations due to ethnic variety and varying lifestyle patterns.

• Precision Medicine Initiative- Through this project, CSIR promotes Predictive, Personalised, Participatory, and Preventive (P4) healthcare that is tailored to Indian phenotypic and genetic profiles.
