Union Home Minister Amit Shah has praised the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) for their remarkable achievement in successfully summiting Mount Makalu, the world’s fifth-highest peak.

The ITBP team not only reached the summit but also carried out an environmental cleanup, reinforcing their commitment to both national pride and ecological conservation.

• The ITBP expedition of 12 members successfully summited Mount Makalu (8,485 meters) on April 19, 2025, marking the first ascent by any Central Armed Police Force.
• The team was led by Deputy Commandants Anoop Kumar Negi and Nihas Suresh, along with other dedicated personnel.
• Besides the climb, the ITBP carried out a cleanliness drive at the peak, removing 150 kg of non-biodegradable waste under the "Clean Himalaya – Save Glacier" campaign.
• HM Amit Shah applauded the ITBP members for their bravery, dedication, and environmental responsibility.
• This milestone adds to ITBP’s impressive record of climbing six of the world’s 14 highest peaks, with a total of 229 peaks conquered so far.
