India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections touched an all-time high of ?22.08 lakh crore in FY 2024–25, reflecting a strong 9.4% growth over the previous fiscal year.
The milestone underscores the success of tax reforms, improved compliance, and growing digital infrastructure that have significantly expanded the taxpayer base and enhanced revenue generation.
Key Points:
India collected Rs.22.08 lakh crore in gross GST revenue in FY25, compared to Rs.20.18 lakh crore in FY24, marking a 9.4% year-on-year growth.
Average monthly GST collections rose to Rs.1.84 lakh crore in FY25, up from Rs.1.68 lakh crore in FY24 and Rs.95,000 crore in FY22.
GST revenue has doubled in the last five years, increasing from Rs.11.37 lakh crore in FY21 to Rs.22.08 lakh crore in FY25.
Over 1.51 crore businesses are now registered under GST, up from 65 lakh in 2017, showcasing a sharp expansion in the taxpayer base.
Key drivers of this growth include rising economic activity, enhanced digital compliance systems like e-invoicing and e-way bills, and streamlined filing processes supporting MSMEs.
