The government has appointed former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief Alok Joshi as the Chairman of the reconstituted National Security Advisory Board (NSAB).

• This decision comes in the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in the loss of 26 lives and has been linked to Pakistan-based elements.
• The revamped NSAB aims to provide strategic insights and policy recommendations to the National Security Council (NSC), enhancing India's preparedness against emerging security challenges.
• This diverse team is expected to provide comprehensive analyses and recommendations on national security matters, drawing from their extensive experience in defense, intelligence, and diplomacy.

The NSAB, first established in December 1998, serves as a key advisory body to the NSC, offering long-term perspectives on security issues and policy options. The board's reconstitution reflects the government's commitment to strengthening India's security apparatus in response to evolving threats

About Alok Joshi:

Alok Joshi, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 1976 Haryana cadre, has an extensive background in intelligence and national security. He served as the Secretary of RAW from December 2012 to December 2014, following his tenure as Special Secretary in the agency. Joshi's career also includes significant roles in the Intelligence Bureau and the Haryana Police.
