What was Damin-i Koh in Rajmahal area?
A large area of land demarcated and declared to be the land of the Santhals
The land of the Paharias cultivated exclusively for paddy
The British territory marked for their military camp
The land earmarked for locating settled agriculturists
The term "Damin-i-Koh" refers to an area in the Rajmahal region that was demarcated as a territory primarily for the Santhal tribal community."Damin-i-Koh" was a designated territory meant to be a homeland for the Santhals, a tribal community predominantly found in the states of Jharkhand, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, and Assam in India. The area was marked in the hope of preventing conflicts between the tribal communities and non-tribal settlers, providing the Santhals with their area to live and cultivate. However, over time, with the influx of non-tribal people and the changes brought by the British administration, conflicts arose, leading to the Santhal Rebellion of 1855–56, where the Santhals led an uprising against the oppressive policies and practices of the British government, moneylenders, and landlords.
