Why in news:

• The state government of Punjab has released a book titled “Punjab State at a Glance 2022” that provides an insight into key socio-economic indicators of the state.

Key Points:

• The book which comprises data compiled by the Directorate of Statistics, Department of Planning, Government of Punjab, was recently released by the Finance Minister.
• The single-volume book throws light on various sectors, besides highlighting socio-economic indicators of Punjab’s economy. As per the projection agriculture and allied sectors were expected to grow by 3.7 per cent, industry by 4.33 per cent and services sector by 6.78 per cent.
• As compared to agriculture in general, the allied sectors are showing faster growth over the recent years. Livestock sector is likely to grow by 4.18 per cent. It has been further stated that the livestock sector’s share in gross value added of Punjab was 11.1 per cent during 2022-23. Further, it has been projected that the per capita income of Punjab was expected to touch Rs 1,73,873 as compared to Rs 1,70,620 at the national level.
• Notably, in the period analysed by the Directorate of Statistics, inflation remained below the national level. It was at the peak in April 2022 and showed a downward trend in the next few months with the exception in June 2022. It remained benign till October 2022, when it touched the bottom with 4.5 per cent, but it started upward trend in November and December 2022.
