  • The legendary Indian sprinter Milkha Singh has passed away due to post-Covid complications. He was 91-year-old.
  • Milkha Singh was being treated at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh.
  • Last week, he had lost his former national volleyball captain wife Nirmal Kaur due to same Covid-complications.

  • Milkha Singh was one of the greatest Indian track and field sprinter, who was nicknamed as The Flying Sikh, for his accomplishments.
  • He won four Asian Games gold medals, and was the only athlete to win gold in 400 metres race at the Asian Games.
  • He secured gold in 200m and 400m in the 1956 Asian Games and 400m and 4X400m relay in 1962 Asian Games.
  • Apart from this, he was also the first Indian to become Commonwealth Games champion, winning gold in 1958.
  • Milkha Singh represented India at three Olympics, 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome and the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
  • He accomplished fourth-place finish in the 1960 Summer Olympics.
  • The legendary sprinter was awarded India’s fourth-highest civilian honour, Padma Shri, in 1959, in recognition of his sporting achievements.
