Australian Cricketer Marcus Stoinis announces ODI retirement

Australian star all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has announced his retirement from ODIs, opting to instead focus on T20 cricket.

  • Stoinis, 35, was named ODI player of the year in 2019, and played in 71 ODIs for his nation across a decade-long career, including a 2023 World Cup win.
  • He will now prioritise the T20 format in the final years of his career, leaving Australia with a gap to be filled ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy later this month.
  • Stoinis’ retirement from ODIs also means Cricket Australia will replace him with another player in Australia’s squad for the ICC Champion’s Trophy.
