The Kashmir Valley received its first-ever freight train on August 9, 2025, marking a major milestone in the region’s connectivity and trade potential.
The 21-wagon train, carrying cement from Rupnagar, Punjab, arrived at the newly inaugurated Anantnag Goods Shed in less than 18 hours, significantly reducing transport time and costs. This achievement is part of the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project aimed at integrating Kashmir into India’s national freight network.
