State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is set to award a multi-year Rs 1,000-crore purchase order to Finland’s Nokia for supply of optical transport network (OTN) equipment and deployment through a local system integrator, a move opposed by homegrown industry.

• A person familiar with the matter said financial bids for the BSNL contract have been opened and the "advance purchase order (APO) will be issued to a successful bidder" in the next few days.
• Other contenders for the contract included domestic gear vendors United Telecoms Limited (UTL) and Tata Group company, Tejas Networks.
• The contract is to supply, install and commission OTN under the Phase-4 project on turnkey basis for BSNL on pan-India level with a three-year operation and maintenance (O&M) services and comprehensive annual maintenance contract (AMC) for eight years.
